Juneteenth is known as Freedom Day Or Emancipation Day, a federal holiday in the United States (2021) commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Deriving its name from combining “June” and “nineteenth”, It is celebrated on that day to commemorate the end of slavery in 1865 when General Order No. 3, issued by Major General Gordon Granger on June 19, 1865, proclaimed freedom for slaves in Texas.
Juneteenth is a significant holiday for African Americans because it symbolizes the end of a long and painful period of slavery in the U.S. It represents a moment of hope and celebration for the African-American community and serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by our ancestors in the struggle for freedom and equality.
Juneteenth is also a time to reflect on the ongoing fight for racial justice and the work that still needs to be done to ensure that all people are treated fairly and with dignity
